The 'outs' of SEO:

As discussed in the previous chapters and videos, internal SEO deals with the things that 'you' can control. External SEO deals with the things that you 'wish' you could control. Well, that's not exactly accurate, with a lot of work you can influence certain external sources to help you with your search engine ranking, so their is some aspect of control but not much, and not without a lot of time and effort. But it will be worth it in the end.

One of the biggest factors influencing your web page or web site search rankings are the type of 'reputable' websites that link to you! I said reputable, as with the writing of this document Google has placement a larger emphasis on how well your site or page ranks as determined by the reputation of the websites that link to you. So much emphasis in fact, that if 'black listed' or 'un reputable' web sites are linking to yours, you'll be dragged down with them (or so the rumors say). I mentioned 'type' of website, because website with 'unrelated' content that link to you, will not really help you rank well for the 'topics' your visitors would be using to find you.

At this short point in our discussion of External SEO, I would like you to go back to the 'Overview' and re-read the Big Picture. External SEO deals with the nature of the beast, and if you want to have any influence on the things that you can not control then you need to be educated on the subject.
